biraz önce Vallen’a email attım.

    thanks for this article: http://www.art-for-a-change.com/Obey/index.htm

Fairey recently made a poster of Atatürk which is published by a popular mag from İstanbul. I was having difficulties trying to express why it was meaningless though it looked like it meant something. Which is probably what Fairey intended with the first obey posters. But when he applies his first solution to other problems, without considering them, it fails. That’s what was happening with his last poster, I thought.
I started reading about Fairey to find out why I can’t understand the poster, that is if there was something to understand. I’ve read about your blog in the discussion of the Fairey article on Wikipedia, and sadly not in the article itself as (according to the discussion section) any remarks to your blog was edited out by some moderators.

your paragraph below cleared everything for me:
“The expropriation and reuse of images in art has today reached soaring heights, but that relentless mining and distortion of history will turn out to be detrimental for art, leaving it hollowed-out and meaningless in the process. When I refer to “mining” in this case I mean the hasty examination and extraction of information from our collective past as performed by individuals who do not fully comprehend it. That is precisely what Fairey is guilty of, utilizing historic images simply because he “likes” them, and not because he has any grasp of their significance as objects of art or history.”
